  • The Young Americans Active Member Expectations

The Young Americans have a 56-year history of excellence as a result of high expectations, respectful personal and interpersonal behavior, and a commitment to performance excellence. To attain that performance excellence and development,First-Year Active Cast Members are expected to:

    • Participate in scheduled rehearsals.
      • Active cast members gather for choral and rehearsals on Saturday mornings. Additional show-specific rehearsals are scheduled as needed to support performance needs. Failure to participate in rehearsals on a regular and consistent basis may result in loss of active cast member status.
    • Participate in the following performances:
      • New Kids Show - A one-night-only event in late November. Rehearsals occur during the fall semester on Saturday afternoons & evenings and Sunday afternoons & evenings. Additional rehearsals are scheduled as needed to support performance needs.
      • The Magic of Christmas Show - A multi-week run in early December. Intensive rehearsals begin late November and require cast members to be available daily without conflict. Cast members may not have a rehearsal call every day, but with the compressed rehearsal schedule, availability must be kept open. In addition to performing, 1st-year cast members are involved through the stagecraft course that uses this product for applied coursework. Cast members may request to not perform in this production.
      • Showstoppers Concert – Performance is a multi-day run in early March. Rehearsals take place on Saturdays during the spring semester with all-day technical rehearsals occurring in the 5 days prior to opening night.
    • Participate in the Southern California Outreach Program.
      • This program takes small groups of cast members into local schools and alternative education programs on a weekly basis. Each week the YA cast members instruct the community participants on performance material, including songs and dances, to help them develop self-esteem and self-confidence. Some locations conclude with a public concert performance.
    • Maintain standing as a student with The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts by completing the coursework for either the Music Outreach Training Certificate or the Associate of Arts in Performance Degree.
    • Conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the code of conduct at all times to maintain the good name and reputation of The Young Americans.

It is important to understand that in the first year of membership with The Young Americans you are both an active cast member and a student at The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts (YACPA). Enrollment at YACPA is restricted to active members of The Young Americans. Should you choose to withdraw from active membership with The Young Americans, you are also withdrawing as a student from YACPA. Additionally, as stated above, your first-year active status with The Young Americans requires you to maintain standing as a student with YACPA.

Upon agreeing with this document you are considered an incoming cast member. Your status as an active cast member begins on July 27th, 2019. In the interim period, you are bound by the Code of Conduct and Social Media policies.
