SoCal Audition 2019

An opportunity to audition for The Young Americans on Saturday, April 27th, 2019.
Auditions are open to high school juniors, seniors, and recent high school graduates.

What am I auditioning for?

When you audition for The Young Americans you are auditioning to be accepted into The Young Americans Performance Company as well as a student at The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts.

Who are The Young Americans?

The Young Americans was founded in 1962 with the mission to promote goodwill and understanding around the world through music. Five decades later the organization continues to fulfill its mission with performances, outreach tours, and its own college of the performing arts. The Young Americans cast members come from across the USA and around the world to use their talents as singers, dancers, and musicians to inspire audiences of all ages and further the mission of The Young Americans.

What is The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts?

The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts was founded to enhance the Young American experience by providing cast members of The Young Americans with a learning environment that reinforces the YA experience of innovative and creative learning with academic rigor that advances artistry and leadership skills to establish each student as a lifelong learner.

All cast members accepted into The Young Americans begin their journey at the YA College.

Audition Preparation

All applicants will be asked to sing as a part of their audition.


Please prepare your best 16 to 32 bars of a song, any style, which you will sing a capella (without music or accompaniment). Choose a song that you feel best shows your range, style, personality, and vocal ability.


As a dancer please also prepare a short dance routine showing your strongest styles (jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop, locking, etc.)

Please note that international candidates whose native language is not English will be required to demonstrate English Proficiency prior to beginning the enrollment process with The Young Americans. Information will be provided to candidates whose audition process is successful.

Admissions Requirements

The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts seeks students in the formative stages of their artistic development who, because of their talent and commitment to personal growth, stand to benefit most from the training and experiences offered.

Prior to beginning enrollment with The Young Americans, students must meet all of the requirements below.

High School Graduate

Have graduated high school with minimum GPA of 2.0, or equivalent. Students, who do not meet the minimum GPA, may be admitted on a conditional status*.

Background Check

All members of The Young Americans must pass a background check.

Student Health

Given the physical demands of The Young Americans, prior to admission, all students are required to submit a report from a licensed physician attesting to their physical ability to withstand prolonged and rigorous physical activity. All students must also provide proof of health insurance as a condition of participation.

*Conditional status allows the student to enroll for their first semester of instruction with the college, but requires them to attain a 2.0 GPA for that semester in order to continue enrollment in subsequent semesters. Conditional status admission is at the sole discretion of the College.

International Students

The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts is an approved SEVIS school. International students offered admission can enroll in the Associate of Arts Performance Degree program.

Student Housing

A major highlight of The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts is the opportunity our students have to live and grow together. In addition to our on-campus resources, many students also choose to live in student housing. Student apartments are just around the corner from our campus, and our current students can be seen walking, skateboarding, biking, and scootering to classes and rehearsals on a daily basis.
